Katrina-Ranbir's party night

More cosying up for the couple at a lounge in Mumbai

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif don't seem to be worried about being spotted together anymore. First, Ranbir took Kat out in his Audi on the streets of Mumbai and the latest is that the couple were seen partying at a trendy lounge in the city.

Apparently, Ranbir and Kat walked in together at midnight and stayed close through the night. They weren't even bothered about all the staring going on from other people at the lounge.

We hear Kat's pals say that she was there with her 'My Brother Ki Dulhan' team, and Ranbir just happened to walk in as well and join them. What do you think? Is that what happened or are the couple just finding more excuses to be together?

Bappi Lahiri's Grammy feat

He's the first Indian composer on the jury for 2012 awards

Bappi Lahiri might be known more for those dazzling gold chains he wears than his songs, but the composer has managed a feat that no one in the Indian music industry can lay claim to. He has become the first Indian composer to be in the Grammy jury for the awards in 2012.

"I will be a jury member at the Grammy awards next year. I will be among the members, who vote to decide a winner. This is the first time an Indian composer is being given this place," Bappi revealed.

This year Bappi had also sent in his album 'World, Peace And Harmony' for the prestigious awards. It got him a spot in the top 50 Grammy albums but lost out on the main five nominations shortlist.

In the album released only in the US, the 58-year-old composer has collaborated with popular saxophone player Gerald Albright and himself sang and also played the tabla.

This year the Grammy Awards will be presented Feb 13 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Twitter declares, 'The tweets must flow'

While protests rage on in Egypt, Twitter called for free expression and transparency in a manifesto published on its blog.

Co-written by Twitter co-founder Biz Stone and the company's General Counsel and former Google lawyer Alexander Macgillivray, the post casts Twitter as a trustworthy messenger, relaying information between hundreds of millions of users, and only refusing to do so if such messages are illegal or spam.

With more than 100 million separate messages transmitted each day, the company says it would be impossible to monitor each and every one.

In addition, Twitter vows to refrain from revealing private information about its users, and when it is required to do so by law, it will attempt to notify those users before handing over their information to the authorities.
As longtime dictators and despots blame Twitter as an instigator of their dwindling power, Twitter reminds us that it's only a mirror on such troubled societies, "providing the tools that foster these discussions."

However, that mirror is turned into an enormous global amplifier in situations such as those in Egypt now and Tunisia earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Twitter communication is nearly a moot point in Egypt, where there were some reports of cellphone service returning, but internet service was still shut down today, according to The New York Times. (However, some have figured out clever ways around the problem).

Read Twitter's manifesto in its entirety here, and let us know in the comments what you think.

Kim Kardashian Adopts a Baby!!!

On last night's episode of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Kim Kardashian spent a bulk of the episode pretending to cry over her naked spread in W.

But the reality star has a major reason to be happy this morning: she's a new mother!!!

As confirmed by this random tabloid, Kim has gone against her family's wishes and adopted an African-American child. It's surprising the mainstream media has not reported on the story, but we all know how much Kardashian likes to keep her private life private.

if you believe a word of this cover story, you likely also believe that Kim, Khloe and Kourtney actually write their own blogs and that Charlie Sheen will exit rehab a changed man.

Priyanka Chopra finally comments on IT raids

Check out the statement issued by her spokesperson

Priyanka Chopra's spokesperson has denied rumours regarding the actress that have emerged since the Income Tax raid at her residence Monday.

Soon after the Income Tax raid, there was news that the IT officials had found Shahid Kapoor at Priyanka's house when they knocked her door at 7.30am. Then there were rumours that she had unaccounted assets worth Rs 7.5 crores. But her spokesperson has rubbished the news.

"We deny the many malicious rumours being spread in the media on the basis of some unidentified sources," Priyanka's spokesperson said in a press statement.
"We are extending all co-operation to the Income Tax authorities in their ongoing investigations and are restraining ourselves from commenting any further on the issue pending completion of the investigative process," added the spokesperson.
The IT officials also raided the respective residence of Katrina Kaif and photographer Atul Kasbekar.

Meet the new Mallika Sherawat

Jacqueline ready to shed her clothes if role demands it

Jacqueline Fernandez who has replaced Mallika Sherawat in ‘Murder 2' says she is ready to shed her clothes if the role demands it.

"Of course, otherwise why are you an actor?" said Jacqueline when asked is she would be ready to shed her inhibitions if the script demands.

"Why are you an actor if you are not going to give your whole to a role? Otherwise don't be an actor that's what I think," said Jacqueline while talking to reporters on the sets of the ‘Let's Design season -3' programme in Kolkata.
'Murder-2' is as a sequel to the 2004 movie ‘Murder' - which had steamy scenes and was one of that year's big hits.
"I don't know why people are actors when they are not ready to do it. If you are an actor you should be ready to do it. I am a serious actor and I am ready to do it for a character," said the 26- year old actress.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: The Videotaped Movie Date!

Most readers will have one of two reactions to the video below:
1. AWWW!
2. I will kill Selena Gomez!
We hope the majority lean toward option one, as Gomez was spotted in Burbank last night with Justin Bieber. The pair went on your basic movie date, one that included a security team, screaming fans, paparazzi cameras and a plug for "Never Say Never." Watch the adorable action now:

MPAA shuts down 50+ torrent sites

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), with the cooperation of Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN, has quietly shuttered 12 torrent websites in the U.S. and at least 39 sites abroad by filing copyright violation complaints with the sites' hosting providers.

The names of the sites themselves remain unknown; so far, however, the major players seem to be unaffected.

The specific URLs are not being released because frequently the affected sites will spring up elsewhere online under a different TLD (e.g., TorrentMovies.com becomes TorrentMovies.info).

Releasing the names of the sites would make it much easier for users to find their new URLs in the future.
This news, while interesting and concerning, is a far cry from the 70-plus sites shut down by the Department of Homeland Security last November, the culmination of a brewing crackdown effort.

Some torrent and file-sharing sites, including RapidShare, have even taken to hiring lobbyists of their own.

A company spokesperson told Mashable recently, "Given the fact that the U.S. government is currently undertaking great efforts to fight copyright infringements on the internet, our having a voice in Washington could be beneficial for us as well as for the U.S. government."

According to TorrentFreak, BREIN "has (temporarily) disabled more than 1,000 torrent sites in The Netherlands, and they are now helping the MPAA towards doing the same in the U.S."

In a BREIN release, the organization stated that it helped the MPAA take down around 29 sites last year; and earlier this month, it shut down 39 sites in the Netherlands for the MPAA, as well.

BREIN also conducts these anti-piracy "stings" in 11 other countries, including Germany, France, Britain and Canada.

Its director, Tim Kuik, said in the statement (via Google Translate), "There will be new sites, but we take them down fast so they cannot grow."

Ajay's shock advice to Kareena-Saif

"Don't get married," Kajol's hubby says
Ajay Devgn's not known for making controversial statements, but looks like all it takes is an appearance on 'Koffee With Karan' to change things. Ajay's going to be on the show for the first time this season, and he's already joined the ranks of Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor in coming up with comments that cause a stir. Here's what happened when he was shooting for the show.

It seems that Karan Johar asked Ajay in the rapid-fire round what advice he would give to Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Ajay shocked Karan when he replied, "Don't get married!"

Well, it could be that Ajay was just joking or is there something he knows about the Kareena-Saif relationship that everyone doesn't? We'll be waiting to decode that statement when the show airs.

Sarah Palin on State of the Union Address: WTF!

In a play on President Obama's State of the Union address and its "win the future" theme, Palin used the text-friendly phrase "WTF" several times in an interview.

Somehow we doubt she meant "WTF" to mean "win the future" here ...

Another Palin quote on Fox News: "His theme in the State of the Union was the “WTF,” you know, “Winning the Future.” I thought, “OK, that acronym, spot on.”

"There were a lot of WTF moments throughout that speech."

A few thoughts before we turn it over to your comments:

* Who is Palin's publicist?! Much like the blood libel remark, this was a prepared line. Basically harmless? Sure. But why go there?! She loves to stir the pot, but doesn't she want to appear dignified and avoid backlash? Once?
* Will this hurt, or enhance Tracy Morgan's opinion of her?

Katrina's romantic wish revealed

Who's the man she wants writing her a poem?
She is considered one of the most beautiful women in Bollywood, but surprisingly no one has ever written any romantic poems for Katrina Kaif. So Kat's made it known that she wants a poem written for her, and she's even zeroed in on the man for the job.

"Nobody has ever written a poem for me. But if someone actually writes a poem for me, I think that will be very romantic," she said at the launch of Pritish Nandy's book of love poems 'Tonight, This Savage Rite'.

And it's not one of B'wood's hot hunks that Katrina has in mind to write her a poem. The 26-year-old surprised everyone when she said: "I want Gulzar saab to write poems for me."

Gulzar, 74, who has written many songs for Hindi films and has many poetry books to his credit, was present at the event and said: "Inshallah, I would write a poem for Katrina for sure."

And what did the star have to say about love itself? "Even though love is known to cause pain, disappointment, disillusionment, still I don't want to be pessimistic about love. I would rather want to have a positive approach to love. I believe that there can be a happy ending, because love is the most beautiful thing in the world."

But for all those romantic thoughts, when asked about Valentine's Day plans, Kat said, "I have no plans. I will be working on the day."

Adrienne Beasley: From Farmer to Finalist?

The 22-yer old Kentucky native is a farmer who was adopted by white parents at the age of two. She hit every note on Lady Antebellum's "American Honey" during her allotted time in front of the judges, prompting Steven Tyler to say he almost cried. Check out the performance now:

Apps that tell you what to say

Smartphones are perpetually blamed, ironically, for our lack of communication. Incessant text messaging, constant "Words with Friends" games and endless Facebook updates often distract us from face-to-face conversation.

As Gizmodo's Sam Biddle wrote, "Phones, for the first time in their history, are being designed to undermine their primary function ... actually facilitating a world in which I never have to talk to anyone."

It's not mobile phones alone that are stopping us from interacting, Richard Ling, author of "New Tech, New Ties: How mobile communication is reshaping social cohesion," argues. In fact, his research shows cell phones actually improve communication between you and your closest companions; while waiting for the bus it's easier now to text a friend or call up your mom.

However, when people have the ability to surf the web from their smartphones, they're distracted from that connection opportunity.

Big B's a flaming 'Boodha'

Watch out for a red-headed Amitabh Bachchan!

After retaining the same appearance for the last 11 years, Amitabh Bachchan has suddenly turned experimental about his looks. First he decided to sport a trimmed beard and new hairstyle in 'Aarakshan' and now for 'Boodha', Big B will dye his beard and hair into a flamboyant trendy colour!

The colour is yet to be decided. According to insiders from the unit, the super star would either sport a red-tinted beard and hair in the movie - which will be directed by Telugu maverick Puri Jagannath - or it could be various flamboyant colours.

When contacted, Jagannath said: "That's right. Bachchan sir is going totally psychedelic for his part in 'Boodha'. You see, he plays a man who is 60 but believes he's still 25. So he moves around dressed and made up like today's youngster. And if anyone calls him a boodha (old man) he is livid. He will be dyeing his beard and wig."

Even the clothes for Big B in 'Boodha' would be in keeping with his character of a man of 25. Apparently, he would be borrowing accessories from son Abhishek's wardrobe.

The film begins shooting next month.

Michelle Money: Current Bachelor Hopeful, Former Carlos Boozer Mistress!

Brad Womack came to the defense Michelle Money following this week's episode of The Bachelor, calling the season's resident psycho a "remarkable woman."

Apparently Carlos Boozer shares that opinion of her.

Michelle Money's affair with the then-married NBA star is the subject of an article in the new issue of Life & Style, with the 30-year-old confirming the story.
Salt Lake City resident Money says she met the Chicago Bulls power forward in Salt Lake City in 2009, while he was still playing for the Utah Jazz.

Stepson of NeNe Leakes Asks: What About Us?!?

NeNe Leakes has apologized to fans for her recent behavior on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
But the irritating reality star's stepson has a message for his father's wife: What about us?!?
Damian Leakes, the 34-year old child of Gregg Leaks, refers to him and his five siblings as the "forgotten side of the family." He whines to Radar Online that NeNe never says a word about them on TV.

Salman to Katrina's rescue?

Check out what he had to say about her being raided

Salman Khan is back to being active on Twitter, and he's got something to say about the recent Income Tax raids that happened at the homes and offices of Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra. Well, we know that Salman still has a bit of a special interest in Kat, and it is still going strong. Just check out what he had to say.

Salman posted on his Twitter page, "Right to raid...then we (have) the right to question....then we have RTI (Right To Information) .... Bataooo oh ho ho oh. Aur ek insaan batao jo mere baat se disagree karega ...chekho chillao, kuch karo. Darr gaye kya? Or am I wrong? Must b thn! Vil jst keep it acting n movie's. y own frnd don't want me to tweet. So good nite."

Hmm...now that's definitely not one of those crystal clear posts but we do get that Salman doesn't like his close friend being subjected to a raid. Will he come out more clearly in support of her? Watch this space for updates!

Shahid-Priyanka's raid connection

He was at her house when the IT officials came calling

Shahid Kapoor might not have yet admitted openly that he is seeing Priyanka Chopra, but his actions have been speaking louder than words. Shahid recently rushed to meet her at a studio when she wasn't feeling well. And now we hear that he was at PC's house while her house was raided by Income Tax officials yesterday (January 24).

Apparently Shahid was in Priyanka's flat in the Raheja Classique building in the Yari Road area of Mumbai when the taxmen came calling at 7.30 in the morning. And it seems Sasha was in his shorts when the officials showed up, showing how confortable he actually is in Prinks' house! This did throw off the taxmen for a bit, who actually thought that perhaps they had gotten to someone else's house by mistake!

Shahid is said to have stayed a while at the house before he had to leave. Now that's called supporting your lady when she really needs it. Maybe the crisis will finally get Shahid to say openly what he's been coy about for all this time.

Deepika's Southern surprise

She's been offered a movie with superstar Rajnikanth

We've got to say that Southern superstar Rajnikanth's Bollywood heroine are getting younger and younger. Recently, the 60-plus actor starred opposite the 37-year-old Aishwarya Rai in 'Robot' and now we might soon be seeing him opposite the 25-year-old Deepika Padukone. It seems that Deepika has been offered a movie opposite him, and she is all excited about it.
Of course, Deepy who made her debut opposite SRK in 'Om Shanti Om' is no stranger to older heroes. And she might just make a smashing pair with Rajnikanth.

There's just a problem when it comes to the actress's dates this year. DP is busy with 'Desi Boys' and Prakash Jha's 'Aakarshan', apart from from other projects. We hear her secretary is trying to adjust things so that the star gets to work with one of Indian cinema's legends. We'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Justin Bieber Dishes on Dating Life

Listen up, gals: it's unlikely that Justin Bieber will be dating Selena Gomez forever.

Therefore, you might be curious to hear about this singer's likes and dislikes, his history with love and the opposite sex. Bieber shares a few stories related to this topics with the latest issue of Girl's Life.
On his first kiss: “I told all my friends, ‘The first person to kiss a girl gets $10.’ So, my boys, they didn’t kiss anyone and they were like, ‘Justin, you should do it.’ I was slow-dancing with this girl and just went in! Back then, I was just some hockey-playing kid. I was lucky she even kissed me back.”

On an embarrassing date: “There have been a few dates I’ve gone on that I was totally nervous about. I just try to calm down and be myself. I took a girl out for a first date to an Italian restaurant and spilled spaghetti all over her... she never went out with me again.”

On an ideal date: “I’m romantic. I like to bring girls flowers and treat them nice. I would love to take a girl on a hot air balloon ride. How cool would that be?”

Well, female readers, you tell us: How cool would that be?

Google Chrome, Firefox add 'Do Not Track' features

Following increased pressure from the FTC, Google and Mozilla are introducing opt-out features to their Chrome and Firefox browsers.

Soon, users will have the option to stop personalized advertisements, ads tailored to your Web-surfing habits that have sparked significant privacy concerns.

Will these new features allay privacy fears and FTC meddling?

Last month, the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection proposed a "Do Not Track" tool to curb concerns over personalized or behavioral advertising.

The FTC hoped the tool might be similar to the "Do Not Call" registry -- the system that deterred telemarketers from causing so many headaches -- but offered very few technical details.
Such a comprehensive opt-out registry, as some have pointed out, would be difficult to implement. Unlike "Do Not Call," which relies on unique telephone numbers, "Do Not Track" could not depend on similar identifiers, as IP addresses are constantly changing.

Google and Mozilla have addressed some technical issues with their features, but are far from offering streamlined opt-out systems. On Chrome, the feature is available as an extension called Keep My Opt-Outs, which enables users to save opt-out preferences even once a browser's cookies have been cleared.

Before, when one's history was erased, so too was any opt-out preference. With this extension, Google has made these particular cookies permanent; however, users will still be required to opt-out of ad tracking themselves.

Firefox's "Do Not Track" feature has a gaping loophole. For the tool to work, ad tracking companies essentially must opt-in to the system, and agree not to monitor web-surfing habits of users who have chosen to opt-out.

Thus far, according to the Wall Street Journal, no companies have openly agreed to participate in Firefox's "Do Not Track" program, though Mozilla is urging advertisers to "honor people's choices."

"Mozilla recognizes the chicken and egg problem," Alexander Folower, Mozilla's global privacy head, wrote in a blog post.

And so won't many users, who are likely to realize both Google's and Mozilla's "Do Not Track" features are not comprehensive.

It's also important to note that these extensions are opt-out systems, rather than opt-in. Many consumer advocacy groups and government officials have pushed for the latter feature, which would mean behavioral advertising would no longer come default -- users would have to opt-in in order to see personalized ads.

If Mozilla, Google, and other browser companies don't address these concerns soon, they could face legislative mandates, as FTC chair Jon Leibowitz has threatened.

And such legislation could be as annoying to them as, well, telemarketers and personalized ads are to us.

This 3D printer makes edible food

A 3D food printer sounds like something out of Star Trek, but it's not out of this world. It's up and running at the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan -- and in five years, it could be in your home.

As part of a project at Cornell University, a group of scientists and students built a 3D printer and began testing it out with food. The device attaches to a computer, which works as the "brain" behind the technology.

It doesn't look like a traditional printer; it's more like an industrial fabrication machine. Users load up the printer's syringes with raw food -- anything with a liquid consistency, like soft chocolate, will work. The ingredient-filled syringes will then "print" icing on a cupcake. Or it'll print something more novel (i.e., terrifying) -- like domes of turkey on a cutting board.

"You hand [the computer] three bits of info: a shape that you want, a description of how that shape can be made, and a description of how that material that you want to print with works," says Jeff Lipton, a Cornell grad student working on the project. Lipton is pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.
The project came out of Cornell's Fab@Home venture, headed up by associate professor Hod Lipson. Started in 2005, the project aims to create do-it-yourself versions of machines that can manufacture custom objects on-demand. The group started experimenting with food fabrication in 2007.

Lipton thinks food printing will be "the killer app" of 3D printing. Just like video games fueled demand for personal computers 30 years ago, he thinks the lure of feeding Grandma's cookie recipe into a printer will help personal fabricators expand beyond the geek crowd.

"It's really going to be the next phase of the digital revolution," he says.

David Arnold, director of culinary technology at the French Culinary Institute, has been testing out the technology since October 2009. He loves the experimentation it makes possible.

"One of the main things I hope this machine will let us do is create new textures that we couldn't get otherwise," he says. "This is the first time I've really seen this happen."

That could draw in chefs and restaurateurs. But Arnold also thinks a 3D food printer will have mass appeal.

"This would be a slam dunk for cookies at holiday time," he says. "Anything that requires a high level of precision that people don't usually have with their hands, in terms of making icing or decorations, this thing can perform amazingly well."

Because it's an academic project, the 3D food printer isn't commercially available -- yet. The Fab@Home project has the blueprints for free online, and dedicated hobbyists can use them to build their own. One retailer, nextfabstore.com, offers an assembled version for sale -- starting at a mere $3,300.

Entrepreneur Jamil Yosefzai plans to be on the forefront of commercializing the technology. His New York City-based startup, Essential Dynamics, is working on a version that can be sold to the first wave potential customers: pastry chefs and tech early adopters.

Yosefzai thinks his version of the printer will kinetically retail for around $1,000, but he expects that price tag to eventually fall to $700 or so. And he predicts that the technology could become a household staple within a decade.

"It comes down to comfort level, and that will expand as the [technology] goes more and more into schools and everywhere else," he says. "Sort of like computers -- the kids picked it up first, then the parents picked it up, and once everybody has an acclimation to it, they'll be printing left and right."

Say Hello to Renesmee!

Little by little, Summit Entertainment is revving up its publicity for Breaking Dawn.

First, we were treated to the hottest still image in Twilight Saga history. Then, the studio released the official logo for this installment of the franchise.

Now, producers have unveiled a promotional photo of Mackenzie Foy, the 10-year old actress who will portray Edward and Bella's half-human spawn, Renesmee. The burgeoning star has appeared in FlashForward and Hawaii Five-O, but Breaking Dawn will mark her big screen debut. Expect it to be a doozie.

Eclipse Nominated for Worst Movie of the Year

Look out, Razzie Awards. You've just made yourself a number of passionate enemies.

The ceremony that hands out trophies for what it believes to be the absolute worst in cinema has nominated Eclipse for a 2011-high nine awards. All three beloved cast members - Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner - have been recognized in their respective, insulting categories.

At least these stars can be happy they aren't Jessica Alba. In just one year, she garnered four nominations for Worst Supporting Actress.
In past years, A-listers such as Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock have been great sports. They've actually attended the Razzies (held the night prior to the Oscars) and accepted their awards.

Does this mean we'll see Stewart on stage in March, smiling for the audience as she is voted Worst Actress? We doubt it. Check out the list of major nominees below.

Priyanka, Katrina face IT raids

Their homes and offices under Income Tax scanner

ncome Tax sleuths have raided the offices and homes of Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra this morning (January 24) in connection with alleged tax evasion cases, an official said.

The raids started around 7.30am simultaneously at 12 sites, including the residences of the two actresses in the western suburbs. Priyanka's home in Versova, Andheri West, was raided.

Also raided were the homes of their secretaries, their respective office premises and other locations, the official said.

The IT department is investigating whether the two actresses have paid taxes proportionate to their known sources of income during the past year.

Both Katrina and Priyanka are top B'wood stars working with leading film banners, besides endorsing top brands and participating in the major stage shows in India and abroad.

The raids are still continuing.

Sameer Soni and Neelam's dream wedding

Here's how the star couple celebrated their special day

Sameer Soni finally made an honest woman out of Neelam Kothari, and the couple got celebrating with their closest T'town friends at a simple reception in Mumbai.

The party was at the Taj Land's End in Bandra, Mumbai last night (January 23), and among the guests who turned up to congratulate Sameer and Neelam were Karishma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Ekta Kapoor with her parents Jeetendra and Shobha, Mandira Bedi, and Farah Khan.

Salman Khan, who hosted 'Bigg Boss 4' in which Sameer was one of the participants, wasn't there but representing the Khan family were brothers Arbaaz and Sohail with their families as well as Alvira Khan.
t seems that Neelam and Sameer's close friends Karan Johar and Hrithik Roshan wanted to be there but couldn't make it as they had committed to appearing at a fashion show for Shabana Azmi's Mijwan project, which was happening at the same time.
The couple, of course, were glowing as you can see in these pics. They have no immediate honeymoon plans because as Sameer had explained earlier, "I've stayed away from Mumbai long enough because of 'Bigg Boss'. So, no honeymoon for now."
"But yes, kids are definitely on the anvil. Both of us are so quiet, we need some activity in the house," he added, with a laugh.

Neelam had said, "Yes, I am very happy. We plan to start a family immediately. We want lots of kids."

She later posted on her Twitter page, "Thanks for all your love and good wishes! Samir and me are truly touched and grateful.. Love u all! Xxx"

When Priyanka Chopra has seven co-stars in '7 Khoon Maaf', the question is - Why isn't Shahid Kapoor, who shares amazing onscreen chemistry with her and is reportedly her offscreen love, one of them? Well because he refused, reveals filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj.

"Shahid refused to do the film. That time he was preparing for the role in his father's film and for that he needed a particular get up, so he didn't have time to get a new get up for this film," Bhardwaj said.

'7 Khoon Maaf' is based on Ruskin Bond's short story, "Susanna's Seven Husbands". The seven male leads in the thriller include Naseeruddin Shah as the oldest husband, John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh, Irrfan Khan, Annu Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah's youngest son Vivaan Shah as the youngest husband and Russian actor Aleksandr Dyachenko.
The director also revealed that Priyanka was his original choice for the role.

"Priyanka was my original choice for the role. She is the finest actor of her generation right now. Whe I worked with her in ‘Kaminey', I realised how under-utilised she is. She has so much talent in her. As a director I had so much trust on her that I felt that no one else can essay this role as brilliantly as she would do," said Bhardwaj.

The film releases Feb 18.

Breaking Dawn Movie Logo: Revealed!

any news about Breaking Dawn is exciting news, right? The movie has released the first official logo for this November movie, as publicity for the first part of this franchise's final installment will soon rev up into high gear. What do you think of this font and layout?

Power cord lights up as electricity flows

Here's one of electricity's dirty little secrets: You can't see it moving, so it's hard to know when you're wasting a bunch of it.

Think about the "vampire electronics" in your kitchen -- all of those blenders, coffee pots, toasters and toaster ovens that are sucking down power simply because they're plugged into an outlet.

These electronics gobble an estimated 5% to 10% of all the electricity used in U.S. homes, according to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

But what if you could see your money going down the drain? Would visualizing power use help you save energy?

That's one possible effect of a new smartphone charger from Dexim.
When electricity is flowing down the charger's cord, blue lights travel down the cord, too, letting users see the energy that's needed to charge their smartphones. The lights zip down the cord more quickly when the phone is almost out of juice, since more electricity is needed.

Patrick Tarpey, a spokesman for the company, said this "electro-luminescent wire" is intended as a visual reminder for phone users so that they can see from across the room whether their phone is almost charged.

They'll know it's almost ready when the lights slow down, he said. That occurs when the phone is 65% charged. The charger shuts down completely and the light goes off when the charge is complete, he said.

"There's not really anything that's much like it out on the market," Tarpey said.

The charger, which only works with Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPod, is expected to be available for $40 in February. It will be sold on Amazon.com and on Dexim's website, Tarpey said.

Tarpey said the Dexim charger isn't intended to guilt consumers into using less energy. It's just meant as a neat visual indicator of power use. It could have that guilt effect, however.

BJ Fogg, director of the Persuasive Tech Lab at Stanford University, wrote in an e-mail to CNN that the charger "will influence some people (not all people) to recharge their phones differently."

"It's a cool idea," he said.

Academic researchers have been looking at the idea of visualizing power and cutting down "vampire" electricity usage for some time.

For example, Swedish nonprofit research group Interactive Institute has developed a product it calls the Power-Aware Cord -- a surge protector that lights up when it's pulling power from the wall and gets brighter as more power is used. (TIME named this one of the best inventions of 2010.)

The group outlines its motivations in a 2005 academic paper (PDF):

"Electricity is both invisible and intangible. We can see, feel, hear and even smell its effects, but we can not really perceive it," the paper says. "As the effects of electricity (light, heat and so on) often are taken for granted in our domestic homes today, electricity becomes even more invisible.

"In order to support increased awareness in the area of consumer energy consumption, on a large scale in society as well as on the mundane level of the home, it is crucial that people learn about different amounts of energy used by the electric products in their everyday life.

"If this awareness is increased, people might gain control over their own local relationship to this invisible global resource. Ultimately this will lead them to question their energy behaviors."

In the 2006 post "Glowing Guilt," the tech blog Gizmodo put this idea into simpler terms:

"Maybe if you could actually see how much energy you're using, you wouldn't leave that PC running all night."

Roger Ebert: Before and After Plastic Sugery Pics

During his battle with thyroid cancer, Roger Ebert says he "studiously avoided looking in a mirror."
That's because the movie critic lost the bottom half of jaw his jaw to the disease.
But a two-year process has now resulted in a silicone prosthesis that Ebert debuted this week, one that he'll wear during upcoming TV appearances. Below, right, the veteran reporter shows off his new look:
"I will wear the prosthesis on the new television show – that's not to fool anyone, because my appearance is widely known," he says. "It will be a pleasant reminder of the person I was for 64 years."

"Aamir is a dream producer"

Wife Kiran gets sharing his mantra for her

She didn't want to work with Aamir Khan in 'Dhobi Ghat', but once he was on board, first-time director Kiran Rao not only enjoyed working with her husband but also got some valuable tips from him. She is however not sure if she will write a script specially for him, although she says he is a "dream producer".

"Aamir told me, 'Don't move on until you've got what you want and once you've got it, don't waste time.' That was his one mantra for me," Kiran revealed.

"I would love to work with Aamir again. As of now there is nothing that I have written exclusively for him and to be honest I don't think I can write something keeping him in mind specially.

"I can work around an idea that I like, but I can't create something to suit him. So I hope in the future I write something that ultimately suits him," she said.

Released today (Jan 21), Kiran's film is a slice-of-life story. Talking about working with Aamir, she said: "I had great fun. It's very easy working with Aamir. He is a real support on the set and is very relaxed. At the same time he is very committed and was there whenever I needed him."

So did he try to turn her into a perfectionist like himself?
"He doesn't give up until he is satisfied with what he is doing, but I don't think perfection is anything. We can only be the best we can. What drives Aamir is basically his passion for what he does. That makes him pull out everything and I have taken that advice from him," said Kiran, who married Aamir in 2005. The two met during the filming of Aamir's home production venture 'Lagaan'.

Finally, when asked how she would like to define Aamir as a producer, Kiran revealed: "Aamir is a dream producer. He is a kind of producer, if he likes your script, he would let you do whatever you want to.

"He supports you and protects you and budget is also not a big thing. He gives you the freedom to fulfil your vision. I couldn't have found a better producer. I was really lucky to find him."

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan, who is known for his diverse roles, says he does only those films that his heart tells him to.

"I just go with my heart and go towards scripts that excite me, touch me and move me and which I feel I will be happy doing. I've been lucky that they have been successful," Aamir revealed.

For the last five years, all his films have been hits, including 'Rang De Basanti', 'Taare Zameen Par', 'Ghajini' and '3 Idiots'.

Bachchans will attend IIFA if free

Abhishek says he and Ash will 'try to accommodate' the event

Abhishek Bachchan has said that if their work schedules permit they would definitely go to attend the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards to be held in Toronto.

"I don't know when it is but obviously if we are free and not working, yes we'll go for it. We'll see if we could accommodate it, but if we are busy making films then obviously we won't be able to go there," Abhishek said.

"Because if we don't make the films we won't get nominated the next year so we have to concentrate on our work. If our schedule permits let's see," he added. He was in New Delhi to unveil the latest issue of Stardust magazine featuring him on the cover with wife Aishwarya.
Amitabh Bachchan had been the brand ambassador of IIFA ever since its inception in 2000. However, Big B created a stir when he revealed on Twitter that he will not attend the ceremony in Toronto as IIFA said it no longer requires his services.
An official statement from the organizers said that they have aborted the concept of brand ambassador.
"Due to unexplainable reasons, after announcing the event as brand ambassador, Bachchan couldn't participate in the IIFA weekend at Sri Lanka last year. Following this, IIFA aborted the concept of a brand ambassador," said Sabbas Joseph, director Wizcraft, which organises the event.

The statement also said: "The Bachchan family has been an intrinsic part of IIFA every year, and in this regard we have already shared with them a proposal about their participation this year too."

The awards ceremony will be held in Toronto from June 23-25.

Former Oksana Grigorieva Bodyguard: Team Mel All the Way!

Oksana Grigorieva's ex-bodyguard Kristian Herzog has had some rough things to say about Mel Gibson in the past ... like how Mel wanted him dead.

Now, though, the guy who likely knows the most about Oksana's claims against Mel says she's exaggerating or downright lying about violence.

Herzog, who served as her bodyguard until recently, and who may or may not have nailed Oksana, says she admitted to him Mel never punched her.
Rather, Herzog says Oksana told him Mel slapped her. That's it. Gibson admits slapping Oksana, claiming he was trying to protect daughter Lucia.

Herzog, who's been subpoenaed by Mel's lawyers in the couple's custody fight, also says she had a motive for secretly recording Mel Gibson rants.

That motive, simply, was "to pressure Mel to pay her money."

Grigorieva reached a $15 million settlement with Mel, but then backed out at the last minute. Soon after, the tapes leaked online, one after another.

Oksana, who claims she recorded Mel because she feared for her life, is being investigated by the L.A. County Sheriff's Department for extortion.

Who knows if Kristian is the least bit reliable, but it's interesting that he's come out against Oksana with such damning claims.

Taylor Lautner in Abduction: First Looks!

We hope you're ready for a heavy dose of Taylor Lautner this fall, movie fans.

As we all know, the attractive actor will appear in a small movie titled Breaking Dawn in November. But two months prior to that film's release, he'll anchor the action thriller Abduction.

The movie also stars Alfred Molina and Sigourney Weaver, along with Lautner's rumored girlfriend, Lily Collins. It centers on a guy who discovers that his parent's aren't actually his birth parents. Awkward!

Facebook launches mobile app for feature phones

Facebook has just announced a new mobile application designed specifically for feature phones. The app will give feature phone users access to Facebook messages, events, pictures, news feeds, profiles and more.

The app gives users a better, almost smartphone-like Facebook experience that includes simple homescreen navigation, contact syncing and fast scrolling of updates and photos.

Users will be able to use the Facebook app without incurring data charges. The app is available on the following carriers in the following countries and will launch on more networks and in more areas soon:
Dialog (Sri Lanka)
Life (Ukraine)
Play (Poland)
StarhHub (Singapore)
STC (Saudi Arabia)
Three (Hong Kong)
Tunisiana (Tunisia)
Viva (Dominican Republic)

Other carriers and countries slated to be available soon are Mobilicity (Canada), Reliance (India), Telcel (Mexico), TIM (Brazil) and Vivacom (Bulgaria).

On the Facebook blog, the company's mobile program managerMark Heynen writes, "The Facebook for Feature Phones app works on more than 2,500 devices from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG and other manufacturers, and it was built in close cooperation with Snaptu."

Among the digerati, we tend to forget that smartphone users are not, in fact, the majority of cellphone owners. As of June 2010, feature phone owners make up a full 79 percent of all mobile phone owners. That number is even higher in countries like China and India.

As a global company with a strong presence in countries around the world -- and a strong desire to dominate in markets outside the U.S. -- Facebook has a responsibility to develop applications for all kinds of users. Other companies are still innovating in the feature phone space, and we're glad to see that Facebook is starting to keep up.

'Peepli Live' out of Oscar race

Aamir 'disappointed and sad' about the Academy's decision

'Peepli Live', India's official entry for the Oscars this year, is out of the race.

The Aamir Khan-produced film is not in the list of nine movies selected for the next next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards.

Directed by journalist-turned-director Anusha Rizvi, the satirical comedy wowed audiences to become one of 2010's top five grossers.

However, it seems the film couldn't impress the Academy bosses.
Here's what Aamir had to say about the Academy's decision, "I came to know that 'Peepli Live' is out of Oscars. I am of course sad and disappointed about it. But, I am happy that we represented India and we were one among the world's best 60 films which were sent to Oscars," Aamir said.
The actor also maintained that he doesn't make films for the Oscars.
"I don't make them for Oscars, neither for any other awards. I make films for the audience. I value whatever response I get from the audience, critics and media. Oscars, Cannes, Berlin Festival - they are like platforms where international audience come to know about our films. If you win there, more people watch them," he said.
This year, 65 countries, including first-time entrants Ethiopia and Greenland, had submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category.

Foreign Language Film nominations for 2010 are again being determined in two phases, said a statement posted on the Oscar official website.

The Phase one committee, consisting of several hundred Los Angeles-based members, screened the 66 eligible films between mid-October and Jan 13. The group's top six choices, augmented by three additional selections voted by the Academy's Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee, constitute the shortlist.

The shortlist will be winnowed down to the five nominees by specially invited committees in New York and Los Angeles. They will spend Friday, Jan 21, through Sunday, Jan 23, viewing three films each day and then casting their ballots.

The nine films, listed in alphabetical order by country, selected for second stage are:

1. Algeria, "Hors la Loi" ("Outside the Law"), Director Rachid Bouchareb
2. Canada, "Incendies,", Director Denis Villeneuve
3. Denmark, "In a Better World,", Director Susanne Bier
4. Greece, "Dogtooth,", Director Yorgos Lanthimos
5. Japan, "Confessions,", Director Tetsuya Nakashima
6. Mexico, "Biutiful,", Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
7. South Africa, "Life, above All,", Director Oliver Schmitz
8. Spain, "Tambien la Lluvia" ("Even the Rain"), Director Iciar Bollain
9. Sweden, "Simple Simon,", Director Andreas Ohman

The nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, Jan 25 and the award ceremony is scheduled for Feb 27.

Starbucks starts accepting mobile payments nationwide

Nearly 6,800 company-operated Starbucks stores in the U.S. will begin accepting mobile payments Wednesday.

Customers using the Starbucks Card Mobile app on their iPhone, iPod touch or BlackBerry will now be able to use those devices as tender.

The nationwide rollout marks the official launch of the Starbucks Card Mobile payment program, which has been piloted at Target stores and select San Francisco, Seattle and New York Starbucks locations.

Starbucks Card Mobile lets users add their Starbucks Cards, track rewards and reload cards as needed via PayPal or credit card. To pay with their phone, app users simply select "touch to pay" and hold up the barcode on their mobile device screen to the 2-D scanner at the register.

An Android application is also said to be in the works, but the company has yet to disclose a release date.
Starbucks is using its own custom-built technology to enable the 2-D mobile barcode scans. The coffee retailer opted for barcode scanning over near field communication technology -- which Google is exploring -- because of its limited availability.

The coffee retailer was reluctant to wait for a NFC ecosystem to develop when its customers have expressed interest in mobile payments now, according to Chuck Davidson, the category manager of innovation on the Starbucks Card team.

"Once there are more users, we will adapt," he says.

In testing, Starbucks assessed the mobile payment option by measuring application speed, transaction speed and total customer wait time, says Brady Brewer, vice president of Starbucks Card and brand loyalty. In all instances, Starbucks Card Mobile was the fastest way for customers to pay.

Starbucks is investing in mobile payments, an investment Davidson describes as modest in relation to expectations, because customers have requested the option and have shown a propensity to not only pay with Starbucks Cards -- one in five transactions are made using a Starbucks Card -- but frequently use their smartphones while waiting in line.

The company also believes that its customers carry their mobile phones more often than a wallet or purse, and sees Starbucks Card Mobile and the mobile payment program as an opportunity to reach these consumers and build stronger relationships.

Starbucks seems confident that its customers will appreciate the new, faster way to pay. Both Davidson and Brewer believe that adoption will spread as customers tell their friends about the new mobile payment option.

Jesse James and Kat Von D: Engaged!

Fourth time's the charm? Jesse James and Kat Von D just announced they are engaged! Congratulations to the motorcycle guru and the tattoo artist!

James, who divorced Sandra Bullock last year after being embroiled in an epic sex scandal involving Michelle McGee and others, confirmed the news.

"You know sometimes the public and press gets it wrong. This is one of those times. 2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend," James tells People.
he much-maligned James went on to praise Kat as "An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs."

"I have never met anyone so kind and loving and committed to making the world a better place every day. My love for her is beyond description," James adds. "I'm so honored she said 'yes.' Growing old with her is going to be a f----n' blast!"

James began dating Kat Von D this summer, following the collapse of his marriage to Bullock and her breakup with boyfriend Nikki Sixx.
"There is no one else for me. He's the one," The LA Ink said.

Asked if she will move from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, to be with her fiancé, Von D replied, "If only it were that easy. Having two places we call home will be good for now. In the end, home is where the heart is, and my heart's with him."

There's always Tweeting during time apart.

Just last week, James, who has three kids from his first two marriages, Tweeted: "They say True love will always shine through. The only reason I started Twitter again? so I could publicly profess my love for @thekatvond."

She responded with her own Twitter PDA: "Thank you always supporting me and believing in everything I do. But most of all, thanks for being my best friend."

Willow Smith Rumored to Reprise Annie

Can you imagine Willow Smith in the role of little orphan Annie? You might not need to imagine it in the near future.
This possibility is inching close to reality, as Variety reports that Will Smith is exploring a potential remake of the iconic musical, hoping to bring it to the big screen with his daughter in the title role.

The elder Smith found success making a similar reboot with his son and The Karate Kid. A sequel starring Jaden Smith is likely on the way.
Insiders say Jay-Z, who collaborated with Willow on "Whip My Hair," is in talks to work on the movie's soundtrack. But the real question is this: might Will Smith shave his head and take on the part of Daddy Warbucks?

Bipasha's still with John

She rubbishes break-up rumours, reveals the first look of her new Hollywood film

"Hi all! Speculation is a part of r business! I knw d warmth n love tht i get frm u al!Everything is fine wth John n me:) Thank u!," Bipasha posted on her Twitter page.

The actress, who has been with John for the past eight years, does not like rumours about her relationship.

"I hope ppl realise tht evryones life n relationships cn b treated wth a lil dignity here n nt GOSSIP!Al of us r real human beings after al!?," she wrote.
For now, Bipasha is excited about her first international film, English-French director Roland Joffe's 'Singularity', where she plays Tulaja, a Maratha warrior. She posted the first look of the movie on her Twitter page - check out the pictures right here.

Terry Henderson: Worst. Michael. Jackson. Fan. Ever.

Terrence "Terry" Henderson was a dancer in Michael Jackson's new music video. Some MJ fans are not pleased with his new allegiance to Dr. Conrad Murray.

Henderson met and posed for a photo with Murray - "a nice guy" - last weekend, prompting some serious rage from the Jackson fan group Justice4MJ.

"MJ's family would be horrified to see this picture," the group said.
Henderson, who appeared in MJ's "Hold My Hand" video with Akon, says Dr. Murray (who he ran into and talked to in Santa Monica Sunday) deserves his support.

But Justice4MJ is plain "disgusted" by the "so-called fan" and his actions, adding, "The ill-advised actions of Terrence Henderson do not represent the fan community."

"Now is not the time for forgiveness ... it's the time for justice."
Henderson says he fully supports Dr. Conrad Murray through his "tough legal battle" - he will be tried for involuntary manslaughter - despite his reputation.

Henderson's olive branch is a bold move, considering what a pariah Murray has become since June 2009. Will MJ fans ever be able to make peace with him?

What if Murray is convicted and does time? Will that do the job? What if he were acquitted? MJ did preach love and forgiveness, right? We're just asking.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds: It's Over!

Tabloids like Life & Style fabricate celebrity gossip all the time, but rarely do you see a cover story directly contradicted by a star's own comments days earlier.

Such is the case here. At Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, Sandra Bullock addressed the rumors that she is dating Ryan Reynolds - a friend, but not her lovah.

Conveniently, L&S took the opportunity to announce the breakup of the non-couple today. Guess all good fake relationships must come to an end ...
To its credit (we suppose), Life & Style "sources" are only quoted making vague and universally applicable statements such as "They like each other, but while there's a spark, it's not happening now. It can't. They're done."

That about clears it up then. Until the next secret getaway ...

Google offers software downloads in Iran

The search giant Google has announced it will offer software downloads in Iran for the first time -- a move it says will increase internet freedom.

"Our products are specifically designed to help people create, communicate, share opinions and find information. And we believe that more available products means more choice, more freedom, and ultimately more power for individuals in Iran and across the globe," the company said in a statement posted Tuesday on its official blog.

Google will offer three downloads in that Middle Eastern country, which has a history of tense relations with the United States: Chrome, which is a Web browser; Picasa, which is a photo-sharing service; and Google Earth, which lets internet users explore global topography and maps in three dimensions.

Such downloads had been blocked by U.S. sanctions, but those sanctions were loosened somewhat, and Google says it was able to strike a deal with the U.S. Treasury Department to offer the software in Iran. To comply with U.S. law, computers associated with the Iranian government will not be able to access the online software, Google says.

The company cited the internet's role in organizing protests against the Iranian government in 2009 as a reason these kinds of programs are needed.

"During the protests that erupted in Iran following the disputed Presidential election in June 2009, the central government in Tehran deported all foreign journalists, shut down traditional media outlets, closed off print journalism and disrupted cell phone lines," Google says. "The government also infiltrated networks, posing as activists and using false identities to round up dissidents.

"In spite of this, the sharing of information using the internet prevailed. YouTube and Twitter were cited by journalists, activists and bloggers as the best source for firsthand accounts and on-the-scene footage of the protests and violence across the country. At the time, though, U.S. export controls and sanctions programs prohibited software downloads to Iran."

The Telegraph, a British newspaper, cautions against reading too much into this view, writing that Twitter "appears to have had a limited impact" in the changing the results of a disputed election or encouraging democracy.

The BBC notes that other communication tools have been blocked in Iran:

"Google-owned YouTube was used during the Iranian protests that followed the presidential election in June 2009. It offered eye-witness reports but was quickly blocked by the Iranian government, a ban that has never been lifted. Gmail also remains blocked."
And The Guardian offers a look at the history of the U.S. sanctions against Iran, which you can also read about on the U.S. Treasury's website (PDF):

"Sanctions imposed by the UN and by the U.S., first introduced under Ronald Reagan's administration in 1984, limit trade with Iran. Although Web-based services have been accessible to internet users in Iran, offering product downloads has been restricted until now."

Voice of America News says that Google could have offered its instant-messaging product, Google Chat, in Iran, too, but chose not to because of "concerns that security and privacy of users could too easily be breached by Iranian Web snooping."

"It's a balancing act between providing information but doing it in a way that doesn't compromise people's safety," Google's Scott Rubin told Voice of America.
