Vidya's bolder than ever in 'Dirty Picture'

We've got the latest goss on how she's playing Silk Smitha

Vidya Balan says the audience will see her in a "bolder avatar" in the upcoming movie 'Dirty Picture'. "It doesn't get bolder than this," the star said. 'Dirty Picture' is based on the life of Silk Smitha, one of the most popular sex sirens of the mid eighties in the South Indian film industry. She was known for her bold roles and skimpy outfits. The shooting of the film is set to start soon. Riding high on the success of her last film 'No One Killed Jessica', Vidya feels playing Silk Smitha on screen is very interesting as there are no similarities between the two women.

"I have to work hard to portray the character of Silk Smitha because there is no similarity between us. It is really interesting that you play a character, which is totally different from you. I am very excited," Vidya revealed.
'Dirty Picture' will also star Nasseeruddin Shah with Vidya. The two had been paired opposite each other in 'Ishqiya'.

Priyanka breaks her silence

Reveals why Shahid was at her house during IT raids

Priyanka Chopra has finally opened up about the Income Tax raids that happened at her home last week, and also admitted that Shahid Kapoor was with her when they happened. PC, however, denied any tax evasion, and said that because Shahid stays very close to her house, he was the only person she could think of in the situation. "The only person who stays with me is my mom, who was not present at home and Shahid stays three minutes away from my place. So he was the only person I could call up then. So he was there," Priyanka revealed at a press conference in Mumbai last night (January 31).

When asked about the reported discovery of Rs.6 crore from her residence, she said: "My CA (chartered accountant) has given an official statement regarding that and personally my spokesperson has given you an official statement. It's shocking the way unsubstantiated news is making the rounds as authentic news."
"You believe in rumours when they run it as front-page news, without checking its authenticity. Neither do you ask the accused person whether the allegations are true or not, nor do you substantiate it with any paper work."

"I had never experienced anything like this before. Whatever happened has deeply hurt me and deeply affected me. I have already said whatever I had to say and we have continuously co-operated with the investigating authorities."

The media then wanted to know even why, as she is one of the highest taxpaying actors in Bollywood, had she come under the income tax scanner.

"As people say that it happens with big stars. I still feel proud that I am counted among the few highest tax paying Bollywood stars and hope to be so as long God continues to give me the opportunity," Priyanka said.

Earlier they avoided each other when they happened to be at the same event but that's changed. When the exes met up at a recent awards show, not only did they talk for a while but it all happened very cordially. In fact, it so happened that Kareena actually went up to Shahid and started a conversation when she spotted him. The two chatted for a while, even Shah Rukh was there for some part of the conversation, and then went their way. Cool to see them having grown enough to act maturely and be friendly to each other. Bebo and Sasha are in a good place with their new relationships (even if Shahid won't admit to Priyanka just yet) and it obviously shows in their changed attitude.

Google, Twitter help give voice to Egyptians

Google has launched the latest salvo in an effort to overcome internet blackouts in Egypt during anti-government protests there.

"Like many people we've been glued to the news unfolding in Egypt and thinking of what we could do to help people on the ground," Google said on its official blog.

The result was a collaboration between Google, Twitter and SayNow (a service Google acquired last week) to let people without access to the Web share messages on Twitter via voice mail.
The service, which is live now, offers three international phone numbers to call -- +16504194196 or +390662207294 or +97316199855.

For each call, the service will instantly post a message to Twitter with a link to listen to the message.

"We hope that this will go some way to helping people in Egypt stay connected at this very difficult time," the post said. "Our thoughts are with everyone there."

The blog post, by SayNow co-founder Ujjwal Singh and AbdelKarim Mardini, Google's product manager for North Africa and the Middle East, said people without internet access can listen to the messages by calling the same number or or going to twitter.com/speak2tweet. Twitter users can follow that account to see the messages in real time.

The messages also will be posted with the hashtag #egypt -- another way for Twitter users to follow them.

One difficulty Egyptians may face, however, is that mobile-phone networks also have been shut down during the protests. Land lines, of course, could presumably still be used in areas where that is the case.

Last week, as demonstrators angry with the policies of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak took to the streets, the government shut down social-media websites, then blacked out all internet access in much of the country.

On Tuesday, as protesters began what's being called a "march of millions," which many observers say could be a decisive day in the effort to oust Mubarak, there were fresh reports of the internet being shut off in much of Egypt.
